Ellen Degeneres to replace Abdul on Idol

Talk show host and comedian Ellen Degeneres announced yesterday that she would be filling Paula Abdul's vacant spot on American Idol. Nikke Fenke reported that she signed a five-year deal. Degeneres will be joining the other three judges Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi.

I think it was smart of the producers, and here's why:
-Degeneres is well-liked, so she'll bring in her own set of viewers.
-She'll take over as the nice judge, which will fill in the dynamic.
-No, she hasn't recorded an album or danced professionally, but she loves the show and knows what people like and what she would buy.
-She already has her own thing going with the talk show, so she probably won't get greedy (like some people) and want more and more money.
-Her contestant feedback can't possibly get any worse than what Paula had to say (or didn't have to say).

Degeneres said on her show yesterday that she's always been a huge Idol fan and has never missed a show. It'll be interesting when the season 9 begins this January.
