Would you rent designer duds?

[renttherunway.com]

Remember when people were renting designer purses? Jennifer Hudson's character was doing it on Sex and the City The Movie. Well now, the next logical step is to rent designer clothes.

Renttherunway.com has designer clothing available to rent. Their motto is "love, wear, return." Right now they're carrying 30 fabulous designers from Doo Ri to Hervé Léger to Proenza Schouler. You can request to be a member then invite your friends to join too.

Here are a few things to know before you rent something:

1) RTR gets in new styles every week (some of their dresses come straight from the runway).
2) They'll send you the item two sizes just to be safe if you'd prefer.
3) Rental prices range from $50 to $200.
4) Filter your choices by designer, occasion (such as fall wedding, birthday, etc. - LOVE this feature), styles (strapless, halter, etc.), or trend (timeless classics, rocker chic, etc.).
5) You schedule a delivery date.
6) Send back your item in the pre-paid box.
7) If the product doesn't fit, you can return it within 24 hours to receive a refund (minus the shipping) in the form of a credit for a future rental.

Rent this Christian Siriano dress (top photo) from spring that retails for $2,950 for $200. Or, rent this Hervé Léger ombre dress that retails for $1,590 for $150.

It's an interesting concept. If men rent tuxes for special occasions, why can't women rent dresses? I have definitely paid a ton for a dress many times and only worn it once or twice.
