Head-to-toe New Year's Eve garb

(a little mood music for you courtesy of Diana Krall)

Ahh, the age-old question of what to wear on New Year's Eve. I've sometimes found that NYE isn't worth the hype. Often it can be more fun being at home watching the ball drop anyway. However, if you're going to be even the slightest bit disappointed in the evening, you may as well do it fashionably, right?

Sequins
It's no big secret that I love sequins. It's my lucky season that they're ever-y-where. I'm obsessed with the 'All Over Animal Sequin Dress' by Whistles (one of my favorite shops in London) from ASOS.com. OK, since this is shipping from across the pond, it won't get here in time for NYE, but there will be plenty of opportunities to wear it later. Plus, they ship to the United States for $6.

I also like pants for NYE. In a sea of dresses, they're unexpected and fresh!

Shoes
Wild shoes with a pop of color add punch to any outfit. I adore Poetic Licence's purple 'Gift Wrapped Pump' ($99.95) from Nordstrom. They'd look great with an LBD and are also available in black and silver. A red pair of heels is also a fabulous choice.

Headgear
Don't feel like going all out with your ensemble? Just add something fun on your head and look instantly chic. Pair a bejeweled headband like the one pictured from Forever 21 ($4.80) with a black dress and voilà!
You could also channel Kate Moss's Marc Jacob's look in a metallic headwrap. This silver one is $3.80 at Forever 21.

Handbags
Isn't it funny that the things we wore to prom like beads and sequins were considered passé for a while? Well now they're back! You can't go wrong with a beaded or sequined clutch or bag. Express's 'Beaded Foldover Wristlet' ($44.50 plus 30% off) is so cute and would go with just about anything. Sephora also has these sequined bags in different colors for $5. They'd be perfect for your lipgloss and other essentials.

Nails
My stocking was stuffed with this pretty, glittery polish by OPI for Sephora. 'Too Good for Him' ($9) will look great over a deep purple polish or alone.

Here's to ringing in 2010 in style however you choose to celebrate!
